The Hart runs north of the Nechako River up the highway, taking in Hart Highlands and the neighbourhoods along it. It sits high, it is heavily treed, and it gets more snow than the city centre.

Standing spruce and pine are the defining feature. Needle load here is the heaviest in the city, and it is relentless rather than seasonal — a gutter under mature spruce packs full and stays that way unless something is done about it.

That is the recurring job on the Hart: clearing gutters and roof valleys before freeze-up. Water that cannot drain at the roof edge in this climate does not simply overflow, it freezes, backs up under the shingles and comes through the roof. The autumn visit prevents that; the spring one cleans up after it.

The elevation adds snow, and snow adds weight. Roofs here carry a real load through the winter, and anything fixed to the eaves — gutters, lighting runs — has to be installed with that in mind rather than for how the roof looks in October.

Housing runs from 1960s-70s stock through to newer builds, on generally larger lots than the city centre, with a good deal of it set among trees. Some properties out towards the edges are effectively rural, with long driveways and a real distance to the road.
