The work, step by step

How we handle snow removal

  1. Clear the driveway

Down to the surface where possible, so the next fall does not bond to a compacted layer.

  2. Two inches, and we are on our way

The trigger is accumulation, not a phone call. At two inches you are on the route whether or not anybody has spoken to us.

  3. Clear the driveway as it stands

What is on the driveway when we arrive is what gets cleared. If the city ploughs the road afterwards and leaves a berm across the end, that berm arrived after we did and is not part of the contract.

Prince George

Before you book

This is a Prince George service in the way that roof moss removal is a Victoria one — it exists because the city genuinely needs it, for months at a time, every year.

A season here is long and it is not a handful of events. Driveways and walkways need clearing repeatedly, and the part people underestimate is what happens between clears: snow that is walked on, compacted, thawed slightly and refrozen becomes ice that a shovel will not lift.

More about snow removal

That is why timing beats effort. Clearing while it is still snow is straightforward; clearing after it has been driven on and refrozen is a different and much harder job.

Windrows are the other Prince George reality. The plough goes past and leaves a compacted ridge across the bottom of a driveway that was clear ten minutes earlier, and that ridge sets up hard.

Where the snow goes matters more than it sounds. Over a long winter a driveway generates a lot of it, and piling it against the house, over a septic field, or where it will melt back across the driveway and refreeze creates a problem in February that did not exist in November. On a tight lot there is genuinely nowhere good left by mid-season.

The other thing worth planning for is what is under the snow. Landscape edging, garden lights, a low retaining wall — anything that is invisible in January gets found by a machine unless it was marked in October. Marking is a five-minute job in autumn and an expensive one to skip.

Your property

Long rural driveways in Blackburn, Pineview and the outer Hart take the most work and the most time. College Heights and Southridge are mostly standard suburban driveways. The Crescents and Heritage are older and closer in, with tighter access and less room to put the snow.

Timing your visit

Snow-removal availability and scheduling are confirmed in the quote for each property. Tell us the driveway size, access and service period you need so the Prince George team can confirm whether it fits the route.

Prepare for your snow-clearing visit

  • Keep the driveway accessible
  • Mark hidden obstacles
  • Keep pets away from the work area

What we do not do

  • Walkways and steps — not part of a standard driveway contract
  • Salting and sanding — not included in a standard driveway contract; ask for separate pricing
  • The berm the city plough leaves across your driveway after we have been
  • Roof snow removal — we do not offer it
  • Clearing municipal sidewalks unless agreed
  • Damage to anything under the snow that was not marked

Questions we get asked

Is this per visit or a seasonal contract?

A seasonal contract. It runs for the winter rather than being booked snowfall by snowfall.

How much snow before you come out?

Every two inches of accumulation. It is automatic — you do not need to call and ask us to come.

Do you salt or sand?

Not as part of a standard driveway contract. Ask and we will price it separately.

Do you clear the ridge the plough leaves across the driveway?

No. We clear the driveway as it is when we arrive. If the city ploughs the road afterwards and pushes a berm across the end, that landed after we left and is not part of the contract.

Do you clear snow off roofs?

No, roof snow removal is not a service we offer.
