The work, step by step
How we handle moss removal
-
Look at the roof first
We check the pitch, the condition of the shingles and whether it is safe to work on. If a roof is too far gone for cleaning to help, that is worth knowing before anyone starts.
-
Scrub the roof top to bottom
By hand, with a long-handled brush, working down the slope so debris is never dragged back up over clean shingles. This takes off 80 to 90% of the moss and it is the part you can see happening.
-
Treat what is left at the root
A cleaning agent is sprayed on afterwards. Pulling moss off the surface leaves the root alive under the shingle where a brush cannot reach; the treatment kills it there.
-
Clear the gutters
Everything that comes off the roof lands in them, so they get cleared and the downspouts checked before we leave.
-
Let it decay and wash off
Over three to six months the treated growth breaks down and clears. That is when the roof is genuinely clean rather than just tidied.

What does roof cleaning cost in Prince George?
It depends on roof size, pitch, how much growth there is and how safely we can reach it. We quote before we start, not after.

Prince George
Before you book
A Prince George address does not rule out roof moss. Persistent moisture, shade and collected debris can favour growth, including on north-facing roof slopes. Judge the surface you can see rather than assuming an interior roof cannot develop the same problem as a coastal one.
When asking our Prince George team for a quote, distinguish raised growth from loose needles or a dark stain. Describe what you can see from the yard and which part of the roof concerns you. A description or an existing photo is useful; climbing up to identify it is not necessary.
More about moss removal
If your concern is a ridge of ice or water entering the house during snowmelt, that is a different problem from moss. Ice dams can form when snow melts on warmer roof areas and refreezes at colder edges. Cleaning does not correct the underlying heat loss from the home.
Keep the requests separate when planning work: moss removal for visible growth, a gutter enquiry for blocked drainage, and a qualified roofing or building professional for an active leak or recurring ice dam. This page describes our cleaning service, not emergency ice removal, insulation work or roof repairs. Do not wait for a cleaning appointment to address water entering the house.

Your property
For properties in the Hart, Hart Highlands, College Heights, Southridge, the Crescents, Heritage, Blackburn or Pineview, include the property address rather than only the neighbourhood. Let us know about a steep driveway, a locked gate, limited side-yard access or branches close to the roof if any apply. Those are details about your property, not assumptions we can make from a neighbourhood name. The quote form routes your enquiry using the property postal code.
Timing your visit
Ask the Prince George team about suitable dates once you have identified the cleaning you need. Roof access, surface condition and weather affect whether work can proceed safely; an enquiry is not confirmation that an icy or snow-covered roof can be cleaned. Mention any work already booked with a roofer so the two jobs can be considered separately. No fixed month or repeat-cleaning interval suits every property.
You do not need to be home
- Access to the yard
- Gates unlocked
- Pets inside
- An outdoor tap we can use
When we stop and call you
Our crew is not allowed to push on through any of these. They stop and phone you rather than press on and make it worse.
- The roof is not walkable. We will tell you that rather than send someone onto it.
Questions we get asked
Do Prince George roofs actually get moss?
They can. Damp, shaded conditions can support moss on a roof; the city alone does not tell you whether cleaning is needed.
What is ice damming and is this the fix?
An ice dam forms when roof meltwater refreezes at a colder edge. Moss removal is not an ice-dam remedy; recurring problems need a qualified assessment of heat loss and the roof.
Should this be done before or after winter?
Base the request on visible growth and safe access, not a promised seasonal result. Tell us if snow or ice is present and confirm a suitable date with the Prince George team.
Do you pressure wash the roof?
No, never. High pressure strips the protective granules off asphalt shingles. We scrub by hand and treat instead.
Is someone walking on my roof?
Yes, in a safety harness. Scrubbing has to be done from the roof — a spray-only job from the ground leaves the moss in place.
