The work, step by step

How we clean gutters and downspouts

  1. Clear the trough by hand

Debris comes out and into a bag rather than being flushed along into a downspout, which is how a clear-looking gutter ends up with a blocked outlet.

  2. Check every downspout

Each one is run and confirmed flowing. Clearing the trough and leaving a blocked downspout just moves the problem along.

  3. Look at the fascia and the roof edge

While we are up there we can see whether water has been sitting where it should not. If something needs a roofer rather than us, you will hear about it.

  4. Tidy up

Anything that came off the roof or out of the gutter and landed on the ground gets picked up.

Before you book

For a Prince George gutter enquiry, tell us whether you are seeing loose debris, overflowing water, standing ice or a gutter that has moved. Those observations describe different problems; cleaning cannot be assumed to fix all of them. Do not judge the repair needed from the amount of debris alone.

Ice dams are not simply blocked gutters. Heat escaping from a house can melt roof snow, which refreezes at colder edges. Long-term prevention involves controlling that heat loss, including air leakage and insulation. Gutter cleaning removes debris, but it is not a substitute for assessment of recurring roof ice or leaks.

More about gutter cleaning

Before booking, describe when the overflow happens and where the water appears. Does it spill over the trough in rain, come from a joint, or appear indoors during a thaw? Existing photos taken safely from the ground can help communicate the concern. Do not climb up or chip away roof ice to collect information for a cleaning quote.

After snowmelt, note any debris, separated joints or sections that appear out of alignment from the ground. Describe those separately in your request rather than assuming a clean-out includes refastening or repair. Ask the team to confirm the scope before accepting the quote.

Everything is cleared by hand and the downspouts run to confirm the water gets away from the house rather than pooling at the foundation, which in a freeze-thaw climate is its own problem.

Where the downspout finishes matters before freeze-up. Water discharged beside a walkway or against the foundation can refreeze exactly where people step or where the house should be draining away. The cleaning job ends only after the outlet is visible and the route away from the wall is clear.

Spring tells a different story. Separated joints, a low spot in the trough or a downspout that moved under snow may not show until meltwater starts running. Clearing restores the flow; it does not repair a bent or badly pitched run, so those conditions should be identified rather than hidden by a clean-looking trough.

Your property

We take gutter enquiries for the Hart, Blackburn, Pineview, College Heights, Southridge, the Crescents and Heritage. Supply the full property address and describe access to each side of the house. If an outlet is hidden by landscaping or drains near steps, mention that too. Nearby homes may have different gutter layouts, tree cover and access, so a neighbourhood name is not enough to establish the work required.

Timing your visit

Ask about clearing accumulated debris while safe access is available, and tell the team if the gutters are frozen or covered by snow. Confirm dates directly rather than relying on a fixed October appointment window. A cleared gutter is not a promise of ice-free drainage for the rest of winter.

What to know about gutter cleaning

When should Prince George gutters be cleared?

Request cleaning when debris has accumulated and access is safe. Tell us about snow or ice before booking; clearing gutters is not an ice-dam prevention guarantee.

What goes wrong when gutters block?

Water overflows at the back edge instead of the front, runs down the fascia and soaks the soffit. That is where rot starts, and it is expensive.

Do you clear the downspouts too?

Yes, at no extra charge. We clear the downspouts and check every one runs before we leave.

You do not need to be home

  • Access to the yard
  • Gates unlocked
  • Pets inside
  • An outdoor tap we can use

When we stop and call you

Our crew is not allowed to push on through any of these. They stop and phone you rather than press on and make it worse.

  • The gutters cannot be reached safely — by roof pitch, by placement, or by anything else.

What is included, what is not, and what we quote separately

Questions we get asked

Will clearing my gutters stop ice dams?

Not by itself. Ice dams are driven by uneven roof temperatures, often from heat escaping the home. Clearing debris does not fix that heat loss.

Is spring or autumn more important here?

Book around debris buildup and safe access rather than treating either season as an ice-prevention guarantee. Mention frozen gutters when enquiring, and confirm the appropriate timing with the Prince George team.

Do you clear the downspouts too?

Yes, at no extra charge. Clearing the trough and leaving a blocked downspout just moves the problem along. We check each one runs before we pack up.

What happens if I leave it?

Water stops draining and finds another route — over the fascia, down the wall, or into the ground next to the foundation.

Is gutter cleaning included with roof moss removal?

Yes. Gutter cleaning is included with roof moss removal, including downspout clearing at no extra charge. A standalone gutter clean is its own service.
