The Crescents is one of the oldest residential neighbourhoods in Prince George, just south of downtown, laid out on its distinctive curving streets and full of character housing.

The age of the housing is the whole story here. Character homes mean older roofs, older gutters, painted wood and stucco rather than modern vinyl, and in some cases original or early windows. All of that rules out anything aggressive — soft washing is the only defensible method on these walls, and windows want washing rather than blading.

Trees are mature and close in, some of them substantial, and they put a steady load into gutters through the autumn. On older gutters and older fascia that load matters more than it would on newer material.

Roof pitches are generally shallow by Prince George standards, which in a heavy-snow city means the roof holds rather than sheds. Clearing valleys and gutters before freeze-up is the job that prevents trouble here.

The neighbourhood is close to downtown, so access is easy, but the lots are older and often tighter than the newer subdivisions, with less room to work around a house.
