A material-specific clean for appropriate roof staining—not a pressure washer and not a shortcut around established moss.

The cleaning solution does the work
Roof washing uses a cleaning solution at low pressure. Shine does not pressure wash roofs: force that can strip staining from asphalt shingles can also remove their protective granules.
Low pressure is only one part of suitability. The roof material, its condition, safe access and the manufacturer’s current care instructions still need to be checked before work begins.
Roof washing and moss removal are different jobs
Roof washing is intended for appropriate surface staining, film and grime. Established moss has height and bulk; it needs the separate hand-removal and treatment process rather than a wash applied over the top.
A roof can show both conditions. Shine confirms what is actually present before starting instead of asking the homeowner to diagnose the roof from the ground.
What happens around the work area
Plants and beds below the working area are wetted before the wash and rinsed afterwards. Material loosened during the visit is cleared from the gutters before the crew leaves.
Growth that sheds later after treatment is not the same as debris loosened during the visit. Where established moss is present, the quote should identify the separate moss-removal scope rather than imply that a roof wash includes it.
Cleaning is not a roof repair
A wash can address suitable surface staining. It cannot replace missing granules, repair shingles or flashing, stop an active leak, or prove that a roof is watertight.
Tell the team about known leaks, lifted edges, patch repairs or damaged material when requesting a quote. Those conditions may need a qualified roofer independently of any cleaning work.

What you are actually buying
This is the standard our crew works to on this job — not a summary written for the website. It is worth reading the second and third lists before you book anyone, ours or anybody else's.
Included as standard
- The roof is treated with a soft-wash system that kills the organic growth and the staining at the root.
- Everything around the property is wetted down with water first, so the solution cannot damage plants, paths or anything below the roof.
- The site is cleaned up afterwards to the point you would not know we had been there.
- The mix is made to the strength the roof actually needs — that is the part that decides whether the moss really dies.
Not included
- Physically brushing the moss off. That is roof de-moss, a separate service.
- Clearing the moss that falls into the gutters as the treated growth comes away.
Quoted separately, if you want it
- Hand de-moss before treatment — Where growth is heavy, it is brushed off first and then treated. Treatment alone cannot get through bulk moss.
When we stop and call you
Our crew is not allowed to push on through any of these. They stop and phone you rather than press on and make it worse.
- The moss is too bulky to be killed by treatment alone — we stop and quote the de-moss rather than treat over the top of it and let you think it is handled.
- Anything below the treatment area could be damaged by the solution.
- We are not certain a stronger mix is safe on a surface. Nobody guesses.

Roof Washing: the questions we get
What is the difference between roof washing and moss removal?
Moss removal is hand scrubbing plus root treatment for growth you can grab. Roof washing is a low-pressure clean for algae, streaking and grime.
Which one does my roof need?
If you can pull green growth off with your fingers, moss removal. If it is flat black streaking or a grey film, roof washing. We will confirm before starting.
Will low pressure actually clean it?
Yes, because the cleaning solution is doing the work. Pressure is what damages shingles; it is not what removes algae.
Will it damage my shingles?
We do not pressure wash roofs. Low pressure alone is not a guarantee against damage: the roof condition and the shingle manufacturer’s cleaning instructions also matter.
Why does my roof look grey after winter?
Dirt, staining or weathering can each affect colour. Describe the pattern and any raised growth when you enquire, rather than assuming snow has left a washable film.
Do you get the black streaking they get on the coast?
Algae discoloration is not restricted to coastal roofs. We cannot establish its local frequency or diagnose your roof from the city alone; describe the streaks and any raised growth separately.
