Professional exterior care

Window cleaning

Exterior glass, cleaned from the ground so it dries without spots.

A Shine technician using a water-fed pole to clean second-storey exterior windows while standing on the ground.

How it is done

A soft brush on a water-fed pole, running pure deionised water. The minerals are stripped out of the water, so the glass is rinsed and left to dry rather than wiped — which is why there is nothing to streak.

On most houses the whole job happens from the ground. Nothing is leaned against your siding and nobody is on a ladder over your garden.

What is not included

This is exterior glass only. Interior glass, screens, tracks, sills and skylights are not part of a standard clean, and we do not offer hard-water or mineral stain removal.

Saying so here is deliberate. Someone who wants their screens done should find that out on this page rather than on the doorstep.

What you are actually buying

This is the standard our crew works to on this job — not a summary written for the website. It is worth reading the second and third lists before you book anyone, ours or anybody else's.

Included as standard

  • A water-fed pole and purified water on the outside of the glass, which is what lets the glass dry without spots or streaks.
  • The pole reaches the high glass, so the work is done from the ground rather than off a ladder.
  • Frames are scrubbed where they are dirty.
  • Every window is checked before we leave — no spots, no streaks.

Not included

  • Detailing by hand instead of with the pole.
  • Paint, concrete, etching or other stains on the glass or frames.
  • Ladder work for high reach, except where the only access is from the roof.
  • Screen cleaning.

Quoted separately, if you want it

  • Skylights — Not part of a standard clean; quoted on the job.
  • Screen removal and refitting — Taking screens off and putting them back is quoted separately. Cleaning the screens is not part of a standard clean either way.
  • Glass panel railing wash — Deck glass, done with the same system as the windows.

When we stop and call you

Our crew is not allowed to push on through any of these. They stop and phone you rather than press on and make it worse.

  • The glass will not come clean with the water-fed system.
  • Windows are not reachable with the pole.
  • Water pressure on site is not strong enough to rinse the glass properly — rinsing badly is worse than not starting.

Window Cleaning: the questions we get

Do you clean the inside of the windows as well?

No. This is an exterior service — we clean the outside of the glass only.

Are screens, tracks and sills included?

No. A standard clean is the exterior glass. Screens, tracks, sills and skylights are not part of it.

Can you get hard-water spots off?

No, we do not offer mineral stain removal. Etched hard-water deposit needs a restoration process rather than a wash, and it is not something we take on.

How do you reach upper-storey windows?

A water-fed pole from the ground. On most houses nothing is leaned against the siding and nobody is on a ladder over your garden.

Why is the glass not dried off afterwards?

Because it does not need to be. Deionised water has the minerals stripped out, so it dries without leaving spots — and nothing wiped means nothing to streak.

My window looks foggy between the panes.

That is a failed seal in the double glazing, not dirt. No amount of cleaning fixes it — the unit needs replacing.

Do I need to be home?

No. We need yard access, gates unlocked, pets inside and an outdoor tap we can use — but you do not have to be in.

How often should windows be done?

Twice a year, spring and fall. Spring clears the winter grime, and fall takes off what the summer and the trees have put on before the wet sets in.
