5 Reasons to Keep Your Gutters Clean

A gutter clean should leave you knowing what was cleared, what still needs attention and what you paid for. These are the checks we use to make that conversation useful.

1. Is debris blocking the gutter?

Leaves, needles and other debris take up space intended for rainwater. Clearing that material is the starting point, rather than simply washing it towards a downspout.

Our crew clears gutters by hand into a bucket. If material remains after that, the run is rinsed or blown out. We clean up the debris around the property afterwards.

2. Is the downspout part of the problem?

An empty gutter does not prove that its outlet is clear. Tell us where you see overflowing water so we can discuss the whole drainage path.

Downspout clearing is included with our gutter cleaning at no extra charge. We check each downspout for flow before we leave. Underground drain clearing beyond the downspout outlet is not part of this service.

3. Will roof debris fill the gutter again?

Debris left above a newly cleaned gutter can undo the benefit of the clean. The order of the work matters as much as the finished photograph.

Our gutter-cleaning standard starts with clearing roof debris where access is safe. Removing established moss from the roof is a different service, not something to assume is included.

4. Can you see what was done?

Before-and-after photographs make the result easier to check without climbing up yourself. They show the gutter rather than asking you to judge from the driveway.

5. Does the gutter need cleaning or a repair?

Cleaning removes debris; it is not a repair to a leaking joint, damaged roof or poorly draining installation. Explain those symptoms when requesting a quote.

Ice at the roof edge also needs the right diagnosis. Heat escaping into an attic can contribute to ice dams; gutter cleaning alone is not a solution to that underlying problem. Natural Resources Canada explains ice damming and attic heat loss.

Do gutter guards replace these checks?

No. A cover can reduce debris entering a gutter, but it does not remove the need to check the screen, drainage and gutter condition.

UC ANR explains that gutter covers still need inspection and maintenance, including debris that can collect behind them. That is general maintenance guidance, not an endorsement of a particular product.
