The work, step by step

How we remove roof moss in Victoria

Every roof is assessed individually. The work itself follows a clear sequence.

Working a large roof in sections

  1. Look at the roof first

    We check the pitch, the condition of the shingles and whether it is safe to work on. If a roof is too far gone for cleaning to help, that is worth knowing before anyone starts.

  2. Scrub the roof top to bottom

    By hand, with a long-handled brush, working down the slope so debris is never dragged back up over clean shingles. This takes off 80 to 90% of the moss and it is the part you can see happening.

  3. Treat what is left at the root

    A cleaning agent is sprayed on afterwards. Pulling moss off the surface leaves the root alive under the shingle where a brush cannot reach; the treatment kills it there.

  4. Clear the gutters

    Everything that comes off the roof lands in them, so they get cleared and the downspouts checked before we leave.

  5. Let it decay and wash off

    Over three to six months the treated growth breaks down and clears. That is when the roof is genuinely clean rather than just tidied.
